Product Recall Notice – Jif® Peanut Butter

On May 20, the J. M. Smucker Company voluntarily recalled select Jif® products sold in the U.S. for potential Salmonella contamination. Recalled products were distributed nationwide to retail stores and other outlets. The FDA and CDC are investigating illnesses linked to the recalled product. Fourteen illnesses in 12 states have been reported, with two hospitalizations and no deaths.

This is a commercial recall. Due to the number of products being recalled and peanut butter’s popularity, these products have likely reached SD WIC participants’ homes through commercial retail channels.

Consumers, including those who participate on WIC, who have questions about seeking reimbursement for their recalled product, or how to report adverse reactions, should visit https://www.jif.com/contact-us , call 800-828-9980 Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern Time.

There are several other peanut butter options available on SD WIC. Please see the details of what foods are allowed on our Approved Food Guide, or contact your local WIC clinic for assistance.
