Infant Formula Change

South Dakota WIC is transitioning to Abbott Similac products!

Effective February 1, 2021, the South Dakota WIC infant formula rebate contract for standard milk-based and soy-based formulas will change from Mead Johnson Nutrition Enfamil products to Abbott Similac products.

The new standard formulas for South Dakota will be:

  • Similac Advance
  • Similac Total Comfort
  • Similac Sensitive
  • Similac for Spit-Up
  • Similac Isomil (soy-based)

Effective February 1, 2021, WIC participants will not be issued Mead Johnson Enfamil formulas listed below:

  • Enfamil Infant
  • Enfamil Gentlease
  • Enfamil AR
  • Enfamil Prosobee (soy-based)

If your baby is currently receiving an Enfamil product listed above, your local WIC health professional will help you choose the best Similac formula to fit your baby’s needs at your next appointment on or after December 1, 2020. Special formulas will continue to be available for infants with appropriate, diagnosed medical problems when needed.

WIC continues to promote breastfeeding. We offer a wide range of breastfeeding services to support you on your journey, including individualized lactation support, peer counselors, and access to breast pumps.

The South Dakota WIC program thanks you for supporting WIC’s transition to Abbott Similac products. If you need assistance, please contact your local WIC office. Phone numbers and email addresses can be found at https://sdwic.org/locations/
